Wash Comforter On Cold. Water Temperature - Hot, warm or cold. Washing a down comforter or duvet can take longer than you think—bring a book or another activity to the laundromat to keep yourself occupied for a few hours.
Washing a down comforter in a machine with an agitator is a little trickier because the comforter can get wrapped around the agitator and tear the fabric, creating a big mess.
However, when I got it, the care instructions almost immediately recommend against washing at home (see pic).

King-sized comforters may be too large for your machine and some materials, like silk or velvet, shouldn't get wet. With the right supplies and equipment, most down comforters can be cleaned in a washing machine (down itself it washable; it's the comforter casing that can shrink and stretch). There are special steps for washing your comforter that will allow you to clean it properly and greatly extend the life of the down bedding.
